Compassionate. Ambitious. Motivated.

Luis Angel is a formerly incarcerated, 18-year-old father, who is now a youth leader and passionate community organizer. He was locked up at the age of 17 in a juvenile hall detention center but was tried as an adult. Luis experienced the benefits of Fathers & Families of San Joaquin directly, because they worked with his family in providing participatory defense while I was incarcerated, saving him ten years in adult prison. Today, Luis is rebuilding his life by serving as a NOPAL fellow and youth organizer. In his spare time, he loves to spend time with his son Leonardo and girlfriend Mariana. He also loves to cut hair. With the support of his community, Luis has changed his mentality as part of his own healing journey. He has learned to forgive those who have harmed him and asks for forgiveness to the people he has hurt.
