Passionate. Driven. Understanding.
Kayuta “Shay” Holliman began her journey by being raised in Stockton, California, and has lived in every part of her community. At the age of 9, Shay was pushed into the foster care-to-prison pipeline, resulting into her incarceration at the age of 19 until she was 29. After this chapter in her life, Shay struggled with homelessness and the searched for job opportunities. Despite these difficult circumstances, she began to give back to her community through her volunteer work with FFSJ for 2 years. Here, she learned how to appreciate her struggles and learn how to use them as a strength in a welcoming and accepting environment. Now she continues to educate herself through her work for as a TURN advocate, Parks Now Coalition, and Neighborhood Trust Builder and Neighborhood Outreach in order to continue to educate herself and to help the community. Shay is passionate about supporting and empowering other formerly incarcerated women.
