Independent. Driven. Bridge-Builder.

Irene currently serves as the Healing Schools Initiative coordinator at Fathers & Families of San Joaquin which expands culturally-rooted curriculum and trauma-informed/healing-centered practices into seven South Stockton schools. After graduating with a BA in Human Biology focused on health in underserved communities, Irene worked in rural India with the Comprehensive Rural Health Project to learn about their model of community empowerment, with Greenlining Institute’s Health Equity Program, and with Reinvent South Stockton Coalition on their collective impact strategy. In her prior role at Fathers & Families of San Joaquin, she helped start the Health Justice department and their environmental justice campaigns. She holds a dual Masters in Public Health and City Planning and hopes to use that to better elevate the voices of grassroots organizing efforts, improve the built environment and social conditions in redlined communities,  and to build the capacity and power of local residents.
